International Polar Bear Day is celebrated on the 27th of February! 10 curious facts about polar bears will tell you a lot about these adorable animals.
Polar bears are so cute and loved by people. We usually see them in cartoons (remember Bernard?) or read about them in books. And in Inuit Mythology, polar bears symbolize dreadful natural forces! No wonder the Eskimos are afraid of them: polar bears are the largest land carnivores in the world.
Anyway, these unique animals are endangered nowadays. Constant climate change causes the Arctic ice loss while polar bears spend most of their time exactly on ice - it is their natural habitat. Today, polar bears are considered to be a threatened species, and everyone is welcome to help.
Polar bears are curious animals. They usually spy out the land, play with rubbish and stuff.

A polar bear can smell his prey from more than 1 km long distance!

These bears adore protein. Their favorite meals are red meat and seal's blubber.

A polar bear mother guide her cubs until the moment they can provide food for themselves.

Polar bears attack people very rarely. Most cases are the results of people's aggression. A well-fed polar bear is most likely not to touch a human.

Even grown-up bears like playing and fooling around with each other.
Polar bears' skin is black. It's one of the ways to stay warm: black skin gets hot in the sun rays very quickly.

Polar bears' fur is actually not white, but colorless! Reflecting the white color of the snow it seems to be white too.
Polar bears are wonderful swimmers. A grown-up polar bear can cover up to 680 km distance in water. No wonder their name is translated as "sea bear" from Latin.

Being well protected from hunting by lots of regulations which really do work, polar bears suffer from the global warming most of all. People are able to help! Constant watch and creating conservation areas are the first steps in saving these adorable creatures.
