Man created a shower truck in order to help the homeless boost their self-esteem! 7/14/2016 •

This is a story about a generous man, who decided to help homeless people in an unusual yet very effective way!

Jake Austin started helping the homeless in St. Louis, the U.S. state of Missouri, several years ago. At first, the man bought soap, shampoo and other toiletries and brought them to various charity organizations. But then, he came to a conclusion that the hygiene problem could not be solved in such a way, simply because the homeless didn’t have a place to wash and use all these things.

One day a marvelous idea came to Jake’s mind: he decided to create a mobile shower! The man bought a truck for $5000 and got some donations through the company GoFundMe. He used this money to renovate the truck and change its interior: now there are two separate shower units, two sinks and mirrors. There are also different toiletries, such as soap, shampoo, fresh towels, toothpaste and shaving accessories.

The truck uses water from fire hydrants and is heated with the help of a special mobile power unit. Thus, the shower truck can travel around the city and give the homeless a chance to wash in warm water and in a comfortable place.

Jake believes that this may help such people to improve or change their life dramatically and even to boost their self-esteem. For example, people who are neat, clean shaven and smell good have much more opportunities to find a good job.
