On the 1994–2000 U.S. TV show "Chicago Hope", the actor who played Dr. Jeffrey Geiger was Mandy Patinkin. In 1994, Patinkin took the role of Dr. Jeffrey Geiger on CBS's "Chicago Hope". He was able to win an Emmy Award for his acting. Despite awards and very popular success with the show, Patinkin left the show in the 2nd season. He did this because he was unhappy spending so much time away from his wife and children. In 1999, Patinkin returned to the show at the beginning of the 6th season. The show was later canceled in 2000. He also worked on other TV shows, including: "Dead Like Me" (2003–04), "Criminal Minds" (2005–07), and "Homeland" (2011–20).

After "Chicago Hope", Patinkin was able to appear in a number of large-screen motion pictures. The films were: "Piñero" (2001), "Run Ronnie Run" (2002), "Castle in the Sky" (2003), "Choking Man" and "Everyone's Hero" (2006), "4.3.2.1." (2010), "Jock the Hero Dog" (2011), "The Wind Rises" (2013), "Wish I Was Here" (2014), "Ali and Nino" and "The Queen of Spain" (2016), "Smurfs: The Lost Village" and "Wonder" (2017), "Life Itself" (2018), and "Before You Know It" (2019).
