Louis XVI, the king of France (1754-1793) happened to reign in a very tumultuous time. Many historians believe that this monarch proved to be a decent man in family life and a weak-willed, irresponsible person in politics.

The king was on trial in December 1792. He was accused of high treason and judged guilty.

In January 1793, 361 out of 721 members of the National Convention voted for the king's death. On the 21st of January, Louis was decapitated at the center of the Place de la Revolution in Paris.
