The book that could have been titled "On the Road to West Egg" was "The Great Gatsby". "The Great Gatsby" was written by Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald or better known as F. Scott Fitzgerald. He was born in September 1896 in St. Paul, Minnesota and published four novels while he lived. They are: "This Side of Paradise" (1920), "The Beautiful and Damned" (1922), "The Great Gatsby" (1925), and "Tender is the Night" (1934).

His last novel entitled "The Last Tycoon" was published posthumously in 1941 a year after his death. For his very popular novel "The Great Gatsby", F. Scott Fitzgerald had different titles such as "On the Road to West Egg", "Trimalchio in West Egg, "Trimalchio", "Gold-Hatted Gatsby", "Among Ash-Heaps and Millionaires", "Under the Red, White, and Blue", and "The High-Bouncing Lover". He (Fitzgerald) reluctantly chose "The Greats Gatsby" for the title of his book.
