What dog breed is this?

The Yorkshire Terrier is a dog breed developed during the 19th century in Yorkshire, England. Yorkshire Terriers were originally developed to get rid of rats in clothing mills. The breed is located in the Toy Terrier section of the Terrier Group. Their maximum weight is about 7 pounds, but sometimes (quite rarely) they can grow up to 15 pounds. Yorkshire Terriers can have grey, tan and black coat. The owners of Yorkshire Terriers usually call their devoted pets Yorkies. A lot of women adore these dogs, as they are nice, easy to carry and don't take up much space.

As a lifetime Yorkie owner, I feel entitled to question the rather feeble reasons given for adoring these dogs - and to add that they are real terriers, can be feisty and stubborn but have high intelligence and great personality. My dogs are usually of a good size, and I avoid the teacup breeders. Loving and faithful companions - would recommend Yorkie for any person, not only women!

As a resident of Yorkshire,I always feel a bit disappointed that this tiny dog should be named after the largest ( & in my opinion, the best ) county. Maybe it has other qualities associated with God's own county, such as persistence & Northern Grit ? . . .

Rosemary, the picture I see depicts a show-coat Yorkshire Terrier. Skye Terriers are much larger and vastly different in structure. Perhaps you are thinking of the Silky Terrier instead; which looks a great deal more like the Yorkshire.

Linda Johnson, it happens I've seen taco bell dogs 3 to be exact different owners that didn't bark or nip ankles. So I think in all cases we have odd dogs my Luna big mixed dog lives on apt building with me she never barks. If she sees someone coming at the door she makes a noise like a low brrf..lol I know she barks loudly outside but even then very rarely

Missed it.. That hair I would hate to have to brush that daily to keep out tangles. Mud puddles would be horrifying thought

Sweet dogs, full of energy, but do have some health problems,including Diabetes, and are prone to blindness as a result. Loved mine even with his health problems for over 13 years.
