Kevin Costner (born 1955) is a successful American actor, filmmaker, musician and songwriter, a recipient of multiple awards and accolades during his career that started in 1974. Costner became interested in acting and dancing during his last year of college at California State University, Fullerton. After graduation, he married Cindy Silva, who worked at Disneyland as Cinderella.

After honeymooning in Puerto Vallarta, the couple met the iconic American actor Richard Burton (1925-1984) on their return flight. Burton had purchased all the seats around him for solitude. Burton agreed however to speak to Costner after he finished reading his book.

When Burton gestured, Costner met with him and expressed his interest in acting but voiced his preference to avoid the drama and publicity that followed Burton as an actor. Costner queried Burton if he would have to tolerate that if he became an actor. Burton replied, “You have blue eyes, I have blue eyes. I think you’ll be fine.”

After the plane landed, Burton’s limousine pulled up to the curb where Costner and his wife were waiting for a taxi. Burton wished Costner good luck and the two never met again. Based on that encounter, Costner credits Burton with partially contributing to his career.

Richard Burton was a Welsh actor noted for his mellifluous baritone voice. He established his career as a formidable Shakespearean actor in the 1950s. Burton was nominated for seven Academy Awards but never won an Oscar.
