This movie saved United Artists from financial ruin. At the time of this movie's release, the studio was still reeling from Michael Cimino's "Heaven's Gate" (1980), a notorious $40 million bomb that was about to force United Artists to file for bankruptcy. When "For Your Eyes Only" took in a worldwide gross of $195 million, the studio was saved. Afterwards, the studio turned its focus toward making blockbusters and less on the production of personal film projects coming from executives and directors.
