Annelies Marie Frank, born on 12th June 1929, was a German-Dutch diarist of Jewish heritage, and is one of the most discussed Jewish victims of the Holocaust (1941 – 1945).

Anne Frank was made famous around the world with the 1947 publication of ‘The Diary of a Young Girl’ (originally ‘Het Achterhuis’ in Dutch; English: The Secret Annex), in which she records her life in hiding from 1942 to 1944, during the German occupation of the Netherlands in World War II.

On the morning of Monday, 6 July 1942, Anne Frank and her family moved into their hiding place. This hiding place became known as the 'Achterhuis' (translated into "Secret Annex" in English editions of the diary).

On the morning of 4 August 1944, the 'Achterhuis' was stormed by a group of German uniformed police.
