Amjad Farid Sabri (23 December, 1976 -22June, 2016), a Pakistani sufi Islamic devotional singer, was gunned down in the city of Karachi, Pakistan. He was shot dead by Taliban MQM (Muttahida Qaumi movements) for not corporating in money laundering to their leader in London. Another faction of Pakistani Taliban also claimed the responsibility, accusing Sabri of being a blasphemer. However there is no independent verification of the claim. Pakistani government claimed it to be a terrorist target- killing. The Sabri family rose to fame in the 1970s when the dynamic duo of Ghulam Farid Sabri and Maqbool Ahmad Sabri went on to redefining old genere of mystic devotional singing. It was Amjad Farid Sabri who took reins from his father Ghulam Farid and uncle Maqbool Sabri and emerged as one of South Asia's most prominent sufi devotional singer.

The attack occurred on 22 June, 2016 when the 45-year-old Sabri was on his way to a television station, where he was scheduled to give a performance to mark the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. He was very popular in India, Bangladesh and several middle-east nations. Most of the South-Asian countries grieved this terrorist target- killing of the world famed mystic devotional singer.

The Taliban and the extremist groups have carried out major attacks on Sufi mosques and shrines, including the bombing of 2010 of the Data Darbar shrine in Lahore killing more than 40 people.
