The question says “muggle-born”. Her parents were muggles but Hermione has excellent magical powers.

Hermione's middle name was originally Jane, but in 2003, J.K. Rowling realized she'd given the same middle name to the Minister Of Magic's evil spy Dolores J. Umbridge, her name was retconned as Jean, as all future publishings of the first four books would bear out.
