The Rhodes Scholarship, established in 1902, was named for the British mining magnate and South African politician Cecil John Rhodes. It is an international postgraduate award for non-British students to study at the University of Oxford. The award is widely considered to be one of the world's most prestigious scholarships.

Upon graduation from Georgetown University in 1968, Bill Clinton won a Rhodes Scholarship to the University of Oxford where he studied philosophy, politics and economics. He would later attend Yale receiving his law degree in 1973. In 1992, Bill Clinton was elected the 42nd President (1993-2001) of the US. To date, he is the only US President to have been a Rhodes Scholar.
