Dislike boxing; think it's barbaric, BUT, admire his diligence and quest to become the greatest one on the planet. I seem to recall, also, that because I'm 3 or so yrs younger, I can still remember his visage was omnipresent in all the mags and newspapers and on the nightly news. I also remember his spontaneous poetry but there was a cocky side to him that I found somewhat hard to accept. You MUST be INWARDLY cocky in order to achieve his status, but PLEASE keep it to yourself...I respect humility a lot more than bombastic ego-based comments. I did applaud his stance against the Vietnam conflict, however.

Well since I am not black, I can not live in his shoes. But I can only imagine that I would have felt the same inner anger at discrimination that he did, and I probably would have lashed out like he did. He also supported Ronald Reagan, and had recently said that he would support Trump if he did not so brashly alienate those he disagreed with, which is a bit ironic, considering how he lived his life.

I've noticed a few times that for a site which is often about intelligence and testing our smarts, they need some MAJOR editing. That said, Ali was a wonderful part of the American ethos.

I remember back in the 60's when he was an amateur, in the back pages of Sports Illustrated, they had a page and pictures of upcoming future stars. His picture was there and he was quoted as saying he would be Heavyweight Champion because he eats Wheaties, the breakfast of Champions. We were the same age and I never forgot that.
