Great artistry. I'm torn between salivating at how tasty they look and wincing at the amount of food colouring.

Does all the food coloring take away from the 'taste' of the cake and icing?

I agree the heavy icing and food coloring make it look pretty but I couldn't eat it.

Nope, but artificial food colouring has been linked to hyperactivity, allergic reactions and tumour growth. See: http://holisticsquid.com/why-food-coloring-is-bad/

None of them look good to me, stupid . Lots of artificial color yak! I bet they all taste the same, too sugary.

Lydia Coutts Pourquoi? Even your link you provided doesn't condemn all food colouring; only ARTIFICIAL. Don't you think all those blues and pinks and reds are natural? I don't think these were posted for you to salivate over but to admire in terms of their artistic merit. And, if you did it for your kid's 6th birthday, I don't think you have to worry about law suits from the other parents for killing their kids. All things in moderation, Lydia.

Bill Coe Yes Bill, I know the link pertains to artificial food colouring; at no point have I suggested otherwise. No, I doubt very much that those lurid reds and blues are natural - in fact they look so profoundly unnatural your question may well be sarcastic, but tone is difficult to detect online. Also, I'm well aware the images were posted for their artistic merit (and I'm not sure why you felt you needed to explain that to me). In *my* opinion, the cakes themselves look very appetising but the brightly dyed decorations do not, and for all their artistry they are still cakes, i.e. made to be consumed, icing and all. Why else use that medium? I find your last two sentences patronising and 'straw man' so shan't bother to respond.
