A Spanish matador was killed by a bull for the first time in 30 years!

In spite of numerous protests by various animal rights organizations, bullfights are still regularly held in Spain. Usually, bulls are the ones that lose and die, but this time bad luck came to a matador.

29 year old matador Víctor Barrio was deadly injured during a corrida on July 10, 2016, which was held as a part of Feria del Ángel festival in Teruel, a town on the East of Spain. The bull transfixed the man’s heart and lung with its horn.

In Spain, as well as in some regions of France and Portugal, about 6 thousand bullfights are held annually during which about 30 thousand bulls are killed. Torero is one of the most dangerous professions in the world. Very often, they get various traumas and injuries, some of them become invalids for life.

Within the period of 19 –20 centuries bulls killed 63 matadors, 350 banderilleros, picadors and other assistants. Víctor Barrio’s death is the first matador’s death in recent years. The last one happened in 1985.

According to an old tradition, if a bull kills a torero, its mother should be also killed in order to cut off the bloodline. Animal activists have already initiated a campaign to prevent the slaughter of the innocent animal.

By the way, activists fighting for animal rights have achieved some results by now: bullfights have been forbidden in such Spanish regions as Catalonia and the Canary Islands.

His death could have been avoided. He could have spent the day with his family and the innocent animal could have grazed in a pasture. There are some that found sport in watching him die. Others find sport in a senseless killing of a animal.

Barbaric and not a sport at all. I wonder how many bulls have been murdered over the years .. countless .. and each one was tormented first .. could only be done by a sadist and could only be 'enjoyed' by sadists. This is the 21st Century for heaven's sake!

I think it is pure animal cruelity, there are spears stuck in his back and he is going to bleed to death anyway so therefore it should be easy for the bullfighter to kill him. Let the bull go out there without the spears in his back and see how many more bullfighters are killed! This is the most chickens**t sport I have ever seen!! The run f the bulls is a better sport at least the bulls have a chance unless they kill them too! I think bullfighting should be banned!!

Bullfighting is not a sport. It is one of the cruelest (and dumbest) traditions still be held. I cannot feel sorry for the matador who was killed. However, I definitely feel nad for the countless bulls who have suffered and died. And I'm sorry---the mother of a bull has to die to cut off the bloodline? It should go both ways, then. Sterilize these barbaric matadors who kill innocent bulls and stop their bloodline as well. (Sorry, I know that last statement will offend some people, but sometimes I just get so angry with the way himans treat animals as if it is their right to do so.)

Pity it's only one in 30 years. Maybe if it was 30 in a year they would stop this barbaric situation. Maybe if a Torero kills a bull his mother should also be killed to kill off their bloodline. Much better idea. No sympathy for them whatsoever.

Have watched. One matador was so bad the crowd was cheering for the bull. Not really a sport ito my way of thinking.
