The audience clapping and participating is the usual thing to do at the New Year concert of the Vienna Philharmonic.Barenboim was born in Argentina where he played his first concerts before his parents moved to Israel when Daniel was 10 years old.He studied mainly in Europe. He is a fantastic pianist as well as a Conductor. He lives in Berlin and is a citizen of Argentina,Israel,Palestine. He is a citizen of the world!

Very nice...combination of a march and a polka. Energetic...

While Barenboim may well be one of the more animated conductors, this is a long-standing tradition at the New Year's Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic. The Radetzky March is always the last encore and the audience is always invited to participate.
