Innovative ground-level traffic lights to prevent pedestrian accidents! 8/8/2016 •

Australian company Büro North has come up with an interesting project of traffic lights, located right on the ground. It is especially topical for Pokemon GO fans, as well as for other active smartphone users.

There are a lot of people who keep looking at their mobile devices while walking along the streets. This may lead to various car accidents when pedestrians do not pay attention to the traffic lights, and as a result, get serious injuries or even die.

The company has already designed the so-called Smart Tactile Paving system which would light up in red or green to tell face-down mobile device users when it’s safe to cross the road.

The idea seems really great since it may help save thousands of lives.

Well, I guess it's the humanitarian thing to do, but it just seems to me that this Pokemon-Go phenomenon is simply an indicator of a healthy self-cleaning gene pool.

That's ok for areas with little to no snow. The better solution though is for people to simply get their eyes off their cell phones and pay attention to what they're doing.

In Chicago, IL lane separator reflectors were installed, not only did they get covered with snow & ice they corroded and rusted out and had to be dug up.

seems to me that a better idea would be teach people to pay attention to the world around them. Altho i like Ross Stocks answer too.

On the surface it sounds like a good idea, but since California would then tax everybody for these careless pedestrians, I most decidely would not support

What idiot can't look up from their phone long enough to cross a busy city street (or any street for that matter)? Come on, people.... the ridiculousness. But I guess that doesn't mean they deserve to die. It's an interesting project...

No. I'm sure robots would look both ways before crossing the street. :/
