Not at all surprising. Having a camera in one's phone does not a photographer make. This article demonstrates the difference between taking snapshots and doing a serious, well-considered photographic study. It takes an artistic eye, knowledge of photography, some thought, and a bit of time and effort. Most do not put that much into their photography and it shows.

Nice! But it probably has a lot to do with the camera they are using?

The amateur's photo was most likely taken when on vacation. "Here's where I am, that looks cool, take picture, continue vacation". The professional has the time to search for the best point of view, the best time of day and then also make use of the camera's settings to get a great photo. And you can bet that the one you see is the best of many that were taken. Then add post processing to fine tune it. Big advantage to the pro.

I am a professional photographer, what is not said is that they pros used different angles, different White balance, different f stops and shutter speeds. None of this is given, so in my estimation not done well at all. If this were to help people shoot better then this info should have been given.
