Video: a musician tries to decoy a whale by playing her flute!

Vivian Guzman, a flutist from California, decided to perform an interesting and unique experiment with whales. Here is what happened!

Vivian’s house is located right on the ocean shore. Some time ago the woman noticed that whales swam close to the shore almost every time she played her music. Vivian is a professional flutist who plays with the best American orchestras. This talented woman is also a composer, poet and dancer.

In order to check her supposition that whales are attracted by music, Vivian took to the open sea together with her friend. She was going to play and see whether whales would come.

In the video, the musician is standing on a paddle board and playing the flute when suddenly a young humpback whale jumps out of the water next to her! Both Vivian and her friend are surprised and even a bit frightened.

The video was captured from two cameras. It is accompanied by Vivian’s own composition “Native Soul”.

I don't think the music atracted the wale but more like feeding on a bait pod and she happen to be in. You can clearly see all the bait fish jummping.

I have lived along the California coast in Los Angeles and Ventura counties and I play the flute also, but it never occurred to me to play the flute for the whales, dolphins and sea lions nearby. Very lovely and innovative. Vivian Guzman is playing the Siren Song of the Sea. When traveling by car or train along the California coast, one can enjoy whale watching along the coastal route.
