What would happen if the earth suddenly stopped rotating?

Everything on our planet spins together with the earth that is why we don’t notice its rotation. But if the planet stopped, the consequences would be disastrous!

Actually, if it stopped all of a sudden we wouldn't have time even to realize what had happened: everything on the earth’s surface, including atmosphere and oceans, would continue spinning as it had been because of inertia. It means that everything would be flung due east at a huge speed of more than 1000 mph! Almost no living creatures would survive except those underground and at the poles, but these lucky ones would stay alive only a little longer. This video demonstrates the major consequences of such an awful event:

However, some scientists say the consequences may be even more catastrophic: huge kinesthetic forces and inertia will just tear the planet apart!

Just like a car accident.: the car stops, but objects in the car continue forward, including us.

Ibrahim, only if the earth gets hit with a comet or panetoil from the opposite direction of the spin with enough inertia to stop the spin. In that case , we wouldn't have to worry about being around for the earth to start spinning again. This is basically what happened when the moon was formed some 4 billion years ago, but in the direction we are now spinning. Venus and Mars and the moon would be covered with stuff from earth if that were to happen. Personally, I hope it doesn't happen in the near future.

Can it happen you ask; That is entirely up to God. It is God alone Who is in complete control of the universe which He created. God decides whether you will take your next breath. I trust God completely !! I always have; and it has given me great peace, because God is good; ALL THE TIME !!!

My personal opinion concerns 'Climate Change'. The human race is in the process of destroying God's creation all by themselves. If and when the Artic and Anartic melt completely, this planet will tip and will eventually escape out of the known 'Milky Way'. I am so happy to be 77 and just drifting!
