Woodcarving masters turn pieces of wood into amazing works of art 8/7/2016 •

Woodcarving is one of the most ancient Balinese crafts traditionally practiced there. However, most of the carvings we see today are just replicas of already-existing designs.

Master woodcarvers are a dying breed. Coconuts TV team has done a great job: they visited the studio of I Wayan Mudana. Mudana is one of the last traditional Balinese carvers and this video is dedicated to his amazing work. Mudana is rightfully considered a master woodcarver. He always meditates and prays before he starts working on a new design. It takes him five or twelve months to finish a piece, but we guess that the result is worth it. What do you think?

Amazing, woodcarving is an art in Kashmir also. Our goods are even finer than Central Asian art. Here mostly walnut wood is used for it.Due to the little market demond woodcarvers only made decorational and luxury items like beds, sofasets charis, center tables and decorational almera and other such items.

The beauty in his art is awe-inspiring. But he needs to realize, that is a LOT to live up to. While he can teach his craft to others, not all will have his passion, vision, or talent. I, for one, do not think I can do what he does. I can draw quite well, but my passion is writing. I kinda wonder how I would "cut it" as a woodcarver. Ah-ha-ha, ha-ha.....
