As of July 10, 2016, there were 2,905 death row inmates in the United States.
Almost 3000!
The number of death row inmates changes daily with new convictions, appellate decisions, sentence commutations, deaths (through execution or otherwise), and fortunate exonerations of the innocent.

Yes, let's just kill everyone on death row regardless of guilt or innocence. I won't cry for you when a miscarriage of justice occurs in your life and you are similarly dispatched. After all, it's what you advocated.

William Laughlin I agree, but most of the 3000 have probably been there 10 years or more.
The system needs to either execute them or sentence them to life. The current system is very expensive and inefficient.

It's far too many. The more frightening thing is how many innocent people are left to languish in prison due to technicalities. Rubin Hurricane Carter comes to mind. Since 1973, 144 people on death row have been exonerated. Even worse, how many innocent people have gone to their deaths for crimes they never committed?
