Ty Cobb holds the record for highest lifetime batting average at .366 over the course of 22 seasons. In second place is Rogers Hornsby at .359 and (Shoeless) Joe Jackson is third at .356.

Tyrus Raymond Cobb (18 December 1886 - 17 July 1961) nick-named the Georgia Peach, was an American Major League baseball outfielder. Cobb spent 22 years with the Detroit Tigers, the last 6 as player-manager. Cobb is credited with setting 90 MLB records over the course of his amazing career. Most of his records have been surpassed over the course of the years, but he still retains several, with the .366 lifetime average being his gem. In 1936 Cobb was elected to the Hall of Fame, garnering over 98% of the vote and in 1999 The "Sporting News" ranked him number three on the list of the all-time greatest baseball players.
