Malala Yousafzai was only 17 years old when she won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014. Lawrence Bragg was the next youngest at 25 when he won the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1915.

Malala, known almost universally by her first name, is a Pakistani woman who champions for human rights, especially educational rights for women in her native Swat Valley in northwest Pakistan, an area where the Taliban has, at times, banned education for females.

Malala was greatly inspired by her family, who ran a chain of schools in the area. She was especially inspired by her father's humanitarian work and personal creed. Malala herself, wrote a blog for BBC Urdu, beginning a rise to prominence which would result in an attempt on her life 9 October 2012. She was seriously injured, but ultimately survived the attack. Since recovering, her prominence has risen many fold; she has become known around the world, helping immensely in her work as an education and human rights advocate. In August, 2017, she was accepted to Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford University.
