Aroldis Chapman (aka Albertín Aroldis Chapman de la Cruz), while a member of the Cincinnati Reds, threw a 105.1 mph fastball on September 24, 2010 in San Diego. It blew by Tony Gwynn Jr. in the 8th inning of the game.

Chapman made his debut in the MLB on August 31, 2010. The southpaw is nicknamed "the Cuban Missile" and "the Cuban Flame Thrower". Currently he plays for the New York Yankees under a five-year, $86 million dollar contract.

Though there has been talk about his speed decreasing, on July 19, 2016, Chapman threw another 105.1 mph fastball against Baltimore's J.J. Hardy.

On April 18, 2011, controversy arose when a pitch by Chapman was recorded on the Great American Ball Park displayed a speed of 106 mph. Fox Sports reported 105 mph, and the PITCHf/x system recorded 102.4 mph.
