Rushing yards are the yards gained when the team with the ball decides to run with the ball instead of passing it through the air.

Timmy Smith was a rookie running back for the Washington Redskins who started Super Bowl XXII against the Denver Broncos in January, 1988. During the game he rushed for a record 204 yards and scored 2 touchdowns helping the Redskins secure a 42-10 victory.

Smith was drafted by the Redskins in the 1987 draft. After the Super Bowl, he did not participate in offseason workouts or training camp, and when he finally showed up, he was overweight and out of shape. He lost his starting job and was let go by the Redskins during the 1989 offseason. Over the next two years he played for the San Diego Chargers and the Dallas Cowboys before being released in September of 1990. He never played in the NFL again.

His career was short and the Super Bowl was the lone highlight of that career. NFL Films has named him the second greatest one-shot wonder in league history.
