On Dec. 8, 2013, Denver Broncos kicker Matt Prater booted a 64-yard field goal against the Tennessee Titans in the rarified air at Denver's Mile High Stadium to set a new National Football League record.

The previous record was 63 yards jointly held by Tom Dempsey, Jason Elam, Sebastian Janikowski and David Akers.

Prater currently kicks for the Detroit Lions. In his career, Prater has kicked three 59-yarders and a pair of 58-yarders. He also has a 56-yarder on his resume'.

The longest field goal in college football history is 67 yards by four players, all used a one-inch tee. The longest college field goal without using a tee is 65-yards by Kansas State's Martin Gramatica in 1998.
