At what age did Jodie Foster begin her professional career?
Alicia Christian "Jodie" Foster was born November 19, 1962 in Los Angeles, California. At three years old she started out as a child model and three years later appeared in three episodes of "Mayberry RFD" with her brother Buddy, who was a cast regular.
She made regular appearances on "The Courtship of Eddie's Father" and "My Three Sons". In 1974 she had one of her first starring rolls in the critically acclaimed "Paper Moon".
In 1976 Martin Scorsese cast her in the role of a teenage prostitute in "Taxi Driver". There was much opposition to the twelve-year-old Foster appearing in the film but it was finally ruled she could do the role but only if a psychiatrist assessed her and a social worker accompanied her on set and her older sister Connie acted as her stand-in in sexually suggestive scenes. Turns out it was worth the extra effort as she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress.
She has won Best Actress Academy awards for "The Accused" and "The Silence of the Lambs". In 1994 she produced her first film "Nell" in which her also starred.
She was stalked by John W. Hinckley who had developed an obsession with her after watching Taxi Driver. On March 30, 1981, Hinckley attempted to assassinate President Ronald Reagan claiming that his motive was to impress Foster.
Foster also graduated magna cum laude from Yale University in 1985.
