In Africa, Addis Ababa is the city that has been and is often referred to as "the political capital of Africa" due to its historical, diplomatic, and political significance to the continent.
It is the location where the African Union (AU), a continental union consisting of 54 countries, is and its predecessor the Organization of African Unity (OAU) was based. Also, it hosts the headquarters of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and numerous other continental and international organizations.

Guessed correctly, but I had never heard of this designation, so I learned something new...but why no mention that it is also the capital and largest city of Ethiopia?

I never heard it before despite my 3+ years in Southern Africa ( based in Harare ) and 4 years in North Africa ( in Rabat ) and I guessed it wrong, though Cairo can stake a rightful claim, but then Africa is a many-splendoured Continent.
