James "J.J." Evans, Jr. (Jimmie Walker) made the famous word, “Dyn-o-mite!,” a real highlight of the TV show “Good Times”. It was used in many of the episodes in the 1970s show. Later it was referenced on T-shirts, used in a Beastie Boys song, and strangers yelled it at Walker when he was in public. But, it almost never happened. Walker said the word declaration is now associated with him like the phrase “Let’s get ready to rumble” is connected with HBO boxing announcer Michael Buffer. This word was used only after a debate took place on the show.

Back then and now, Walker had no regrets about his catchphrase, but Norman Lear was never a fan. “When it came up, John Rich as the director loved it,” Walker said. “But the executive producer was Norman Lear, and he was a guy who really liked to do the story line and cared mostly about plot development not characters. So Lear detested it the word "Dyn-o-mite!". He hated it. … It was said that it literally made him feel bad.

Currently Walker has returned to doing standup comedy, and he has incorporated his TV catchphrase into his acts. His audiences don’t mind.
