Superflag was declared the world's largest flag in 1997 in the Guinness Book of World Records. At 505' x 225', it requires 500 people to unfurl and handle its 3000 pound weight. Each star is 17 feet tall.

It was inaugurated on June 14,1992, Flag Day, when it was unfurled on the grounds of the Washington Monument.

In 1996, it was hung across the Hoover Dam on cables that were attached every 30 inches, to mark the 1996 Olympic Torch relay.

Superflag, was the brainchild of the late Thomas "Ski" Demski. In 1980 he had a 30' x 60' flag made for his home to fly atop his 120' flagpole and the size of future flags escalated from that point on.

"Ski" commissioned an American flag to celebrate the return of the US hostages from Iran . The size of this flag was 47' x 82'. It was raised for the 444th day celebration on January 25, 1981.This same flag was used at the USC Library when the former President Bush (I) was campaigning for Vice-President.

Regularly borrowed for Super Bowls, college bowl games, other sports events and veterans' parades, the giant flags provided through Demski's Super Flag company were snapped up to cover the field at Dodger Stadium for the first home game and the Rose Bowl field for UCLA's first football game after the 911 disaster. In October, the ailing Demski traveled to ground zero in New York to fly one of his giant flags from a construction crane.

Superflag has been surpassed in size in recent years by Qatar, Saudi Arabia and North Korea.
