How many American presidents have died in office of natural causes?
Eight American presidents have died while holding office, four of them from natural causes, and four who were assassinated.
The four who died of natural causes were: William Henry Harrison on April 4, 1841, Zachary Taylor on July 9, 1850, Warren G. Harding on August 2,1923, and Franklin Delano Roosevelt on April 12,1945.
President Harrison, who served for the shortest period, just 31 days, died of what was diagnosed at the time as pneumonia (there is some current doubt about that). Zachary Taylor's cause of death is also disputed to this day. President Harding's health had been in decline for some time before expiring of a fatal heart attack. President Roosevelt, the only president to be elected to the presidency four times, had been confined to a wheelchair for decades, and had also been in deteriorating health before suffering a fatal cerebral hemorrhage at the "Little White House" in Warm Springs, Georgia at the tail end of World War II.
