"Mrs. Doubtfire" is a 1993 American comedy-drama film directed by Chris Columbus and written by Randi Mayem Singer and Leslie Dixon, based on "Madame Doubtfire" by British author Anne Fine.

Daniel Hillard (Robin Williams) is a freelance voice actor in San Francisco. Though a devoted father to his children Lydia, Chris, and Natalie, his wife Miranda (Sally Field) considers him unreliable and is frustrated with his lack of discipline. Miranda asks for a divorce. At their first custody hearing, the judge gives sole custody of the children to Miranda, and Daniel's visitation rights are limited to Saturdays only, since Daniel no longer has a home or steady income. However, the judge tells Daniel that he will consider a joint-custody arrangement if Daniel can find a steady job and a suitable residence within three months.

Daniel works to rebuild his life, getting a meager job at a local television station, and learns that Miranda is seeking a housekeeper to watch over the children. He uses his voice acting skills to call Miranda about the job, making them all undesirable applicants. He then calls Miranda as Scottish-accented nanny, whom he calls Mrs. Euphegenia Doubtfire, with strong credentials. Miranda is impressed and invites her for an interview. Daniel gets help from his brother Frank, a makeup artist, and his partner Jack to create a Mrs. Doubtfire persona, including a prosthetic mask to make him appear as a 60 year old woman.
