How many companies or stocks are part of the Dow Jones Industrial Average?

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) is a price-weighted average of 30 significant stocks traded on the New York Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq. The Dow Jones Industrial Average or simply the Dow, is a stock market index, and one of several indices created by Wall Street Journal editor and Dow Jones & Company co-founder Charles Dow. The industrial average was first calculated on May 26, 1896.

Currently owned by S&P Dow Jones Indices, which is majority owned by S&P Global, it is the most notable of the Dow Averages, of which the first (non-industrial) was first published on February 16, 1885. The average was named after Dow and one of his business associates, statistician Edward Jones. It is an index that shows how 30 large publicly owned companies based in the United States have traded during a standard trading session in the stock market.

earlepg, Thanks, that's really good info. I've known for about 60 years how many stocks were in the Dow Industrials, but never knew how many had been replaced. But only Hispanics might pronounce General Electric as Heneral Electric! :)

The original 30 companies that made up the DJIA have all been replaced. The last original company, Heneral Electric, was eliminated in 2018. The total number of replacements were 57 in early 2020.
