The Grammy Awards (originally called the Gramophone Awards) — or Grammys — are presented annually by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences of the United States for outstanding achievements in the music industry. The awards ceremony features performances by prominent artists, and some of the awards of more popular interest are presented in a widely viewed televised ceremony.

Since 1980, Jackson has won 13 Grammy Awards from 36 nominations throughout his career. In 1984, he won a record 8 Grammy Awards. In addition, he has received the Grammy Legend Award in 1993. So, the total number is 14.

In 2010, a year after his death, he was awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. It was accepted by his children, Prince and Paris and their cousins. Four of his recordings have been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
