How many of the ten highest mountains are in Asia?

All ten of the highest mountains in the world are on the Asian continent. Eight of the ten are in Nepal/Tibet while the other two are in Pakistan and China.

The top ten highest mountains are:

1. Everest Nepal/Tibet 29,035

5. Makalu Nepal/Tibet 27,766

In fact, the top 22 highest mountains are all in Asia and most are part of the same mountain range. Although these mountains are considered the highest in the world, arguments can be made that other mountains such as Denali and Kilimanjaro would qualify if measured from sea level. Problems arise in determining how a mountain's height is measured because it is frequently difficult to determine if the mountain in question is a separate mountain or a subsidiary peak off another mountain.

Only true when you measure the mountains from sea level. Very different if you measure from the base of the mountain. Only about 13,448 ft/4100m of Mauna Loa are above sea level, so it may not seem like a very tall mountain. But, when you start measuring Mauna Loa from its true base on the bottom of the ocean, in the Hawaiian Trough, the total height exceeds that of Everest by over 3/4 of a mile. Mauna Loa is Hawaiian for "Long Mountain", probably because of its long, gently sloping shape. If you want to get really technical, Mauna Kea, a neighbor of Mauna Loa on the same island of Hawaii, is actually the tallest mountain in the world. Mauna Kea is about 350 ft/107m taller than Mauna Loa, but its mass doesn't compare to that of Mauna Loa. Mauna Loa takes up a lot of space because its mass is 9,700 cubic miles/40,000 cu km of mountain.

Billie Veach, K2 isn't how many mountains there are, it is the name of the mountain. K2 is the name of the second highest mountain which is located in Pakistan.

The list here only has one, but the explanation at the top says two Pakistan.. but the list is only one.. the wording at the beginning needs to be corrected..

Frank L. Robison, that's what I thought too. I heard a rumor also that if measured from the base, either Mauna Loa or Mauna Kea would be the world's tallest mountain. Don't know how true that is...
