How many POTUS elections in history had opposing candidates from the same state running against each other by year 2017?
There were four other times in U.S. history when opposing presidential candidates were from same state:
1860: Abraham Lincoln (Republican of IL) v. Stephen Douglas (Democrat of IL)
1904: Theodore Roosevelt (Republican of NY) v. Alton Parker (Democrat of NY)
1920: Warren Harding (Republican of OH) v. James Cox (Democrat of OH)
1944: Franklin Roosevelt (Democrat of NY) v. Thomas Dewey (Republican of NY)
And of course, the most current election will have:
2016: Hillary Clinton (Democrat of NY) v. Donald Trump (Republican of NY)
FYI, Amendment XII of US Constitution requires President and Vice President to be from different states.
