How many World Series have the New York Yankees won?

The New York Yankees are an American professional baseball team based in the New York City borough of the Bronx. The Yankees compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) East division. They are one of two major league clubs based in New York City, the other being the National League (NL)'s New York Mets. The Yankees franchise began play in the 1901 season as the Baltimore Orioles (no relation to the modern Baltimore Orioles).

The club has the right to be called a "champion" though Boston Red Socks' fans might be a bit offended with such a statement. Well, the Yankees have won a leading 27 World Series while their rivals did the trick only 8 times. Nevertheless, both teams have excellent players and are the pride of the country.

anthonygriffin, They're actually the CANADIENS (French spelling). I mentioned them in a report in grade school, and the teacher corrected my spelling of the team's name to Canadians. Ignorant. In Quebec they're also known as Les Habitants which is why you see an H on the team logo.

The New York Yankees are the darlings of "Major League Baseball." Just like the Pittsburgh Steelers are the darlings of the "Super Bowl" with six overall championships in the "National Football League. Just like the Boston Celtics are the darlings of the "National Basketball Association" with close to twenty championships. Just like the Montreal Canadians are the darlings of the "National Hockey League" with over twenty championships in the team's sport.
