The Velocette company, was founded in 1904 by John Goodman. Their first motorcycle was the Veloce. The company located in Birmingham England continued until its voluntary liquidation in 1971. The Venom model, was a 499cc single cylinder, 4 stroke street bike. The Venom was built from 1955 through 1970 with a total of 5,721 machines produced. In 1960 a factory prepared Venom set the world record for a 24hour run at over 100 MPH. The speed test, was run at the Montlhery racetrack in France. Velocette motorcycles were fast, beautiful machines, that command a high resale value in today's classic motorcycle market. Velocette and several other great British motorcycle companies went out of business as a result of cheaper but dependable motorcycles from Japan flooding the world market in the 60s and 70s.
