In a cricket match, how many individual pieces of wood are visible to the spectators when the game is in play?

Cricket is a team game played by eleven players on each side, and has several formats. The newest format is Twenty20 which consists of one innings of twenty overs (6 balls) for each team, with restrictions on how many overs can be bowled by one player. A game in this format normally lasts for around two and a half to three hours, not including the break between innings.

Other short formats include 40 and 50 overs per team, whilst longer matches can last for three or four days with up to two innings per team. The top games are called Test Matches and are played between countries, these last for up to five days, again with up to two innings per team.

Whichever format is being played there are two wickets, each with three stumps and two bails, and each batsman has a bat, giving a total of 12 pieces of wood on view.
