In the 1970s, Dinah Shore had a much publicized romantic relationship with movie star, Burt Reynolds, who was twenty years her junior. Their relationship is said to have provided Shore with an updated sexy image. It also took some of the pressure off Reynolds in maintaining his image as a ladies' man. The couple was featured in a long tabloid-titillating relationship. After the relationship cooled down, the tabloids paired Shore with other younger men.

Prior to her life in the 70s, she had performed on television in the 1950s and 60s. When she first started her career was on TV, "Variety" wrote that she had 'a charm and ease that established her right off as one of TV's standout personalities'.

With her television success, she won 10 Emmy Awards. After her career success and a couple of marriages, she retired for five years to devote herself to two children from her first marriage. She returned to television in 1970 as a talk show hostess in "Dinah's Place". One of her first guests on this show was Burt Reynolds.
