The television series "Scrubs" follows the silly philosophical life of Dr. John "J.D." Dorian (J.D. are the initials of his name) as he graduates med school to join as an intern at the fictional Sacred Heart Hospital in California. J.D. has strange, but often comically insightful learning experiences as he grows in the world of medicine. All the while, J.D. has an on-again off-again relationship with Dr. Elliot Reid, played by Sarah Chalke.

Others would develop nicknames for J.D. throughout the series: Donald Faison played J.D.'s best friend, Dr. Christopher Turk. Turk often calls J.D. "Vanilla Bear", while J.D. calls Turk "Chocolate Bear". His teacher and mentor, Dr. Perry Cox (played by John C. McGinley), often calls J.D. girls' names because of J.D.'s ultra-sensitive feelings. Carla, a nurse who would become Turk's wife later in the series, often called J.D. "Bambi" because J.D. appeared innocent to the world of medicine and very timid to perform procedures when he first started. Dr. Robert Kelso, played by Ken Jenkins, called J.D. "sport" as he did all male interns. He also remarked to J.D. that he was "nothing but a large pair of scrubs" to him, indicating his uncaring and callous attitude.

"Scrubs" aired from October 2, 2001, to March 17, 2010, on NBC and later ABC and was created by Bill Lawrence.

Recently, there have been rumors that "Scrubs" may reunite for one or more episodes.
