In the Holy Bible, did Jesus Christ contradict or overrule passages in the Old Testament?

Jesus contradicted or overruled the Old Testament six times.

1. Deuteronomy 6:13: “You shall fear the Lord your God...and shall take oaths in His name.” Matthew 5:37: “But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.”

2. Deuteronomy 19:21: “...life shall be for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth...” Matthew 5:38–39 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also.”

3. Leviticus 20:10: “If a man commits adultery...both the adulterer and the adulteress are to be put to death.” John 8:3-11: “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first. Neither do I condemn you. Go and sin no more.”

4 & 5. Deuteronomy 5:14: “But the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work…” and Jeremiah 17:21–22: “...Be careful not to carry a load on the Sabbath day…” John 5:8-10 (after Christ healed a man): “Jesus said to him, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.”

6. Deuteronomy 28:1-24: “If you obey the Lord your God and faithfully keep all His commands…then He will send rain in season…but if you disobey the Lord your God and do not faithfully keep all his commands and laws…no rain will fall, and your ground will become as hard as iron...” Matthew 5:45: “God sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous”

Where to start? Jesus specifically and purposely contrasted the Law given to Moses with the covenant of grace, which his sacrifice made possible. No-one could keep the Law in every regard, and God showed us what we deserve for failing to keep it. We still can't keep it, but we don't have to because saving faith in the blood of Jesus makes us justified before God.

Wrong answer. Jesus never contradicted the Old Testament in the New Testament. The Scriptures posted are taken out of context and cannot be applied to contradiction. Read your Bible and learn what it has to say to us. Jesus in the NT said "Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill," (Matt. 5:17).

The New Testament expounds Old Testament principles and laws, and Jesus specifically says He did not come to invalidate them.

This should not have been allowed as a Yes/No question. Either answer can easily be supported by reference to scripture in or out of context. After all the “sound and fury”, it still “signifies nothing”.

Because Jesus was providing a new covenant, and because his sacrifice made the old Mosaic Law no longer necessary, there were changes. However, to say he "contradicted" or "overruled" the old testament is quite wrong. If you want to quote scripture, try Luke 4: 4,8,10,12 ("It is written"), Matthew 5:17 ("I did not come to destroy..."), etc, etc, etc. In Matthew 22:36-40, Jesus answers the question, "What is the greatest Law?". He concludes by saying, "On these two commandments the whole Law hangs, and the Prophets", thus showing the respect he had for, and the importance of, all the writings in the Old Testament. Anyone who says that the Bible contradicts itself, or contains contradictory information, has either taken scriptures out of context or has not studied it properly.

The books of the Bible contradict each other. 3 books talk of Jesus being baptized. One of them he was not baptized as John the Baptist was taken to jail before he baptized Jesus.

Jesus did not change the words or meaning of the Old Testament. Those words must be interpreted as their meaning at the time of the writing. For instance, death did not mean physical death, it means the death of your spirit. Jesus came to remove the sins of all believers
