In what country did the game of chess originate?
The game of chess can be traced back to the 6th century AD in India. Some historians believed, but wrongly, that it started in China. From India the game was spread throughout Persia. Subsequently it spread to Southern Europe. There were many different versions until the 15th century. It's final version was coined by the Chinese during the Ming dynasty. The pawn, the rook, the bishop, and horseman were the original four pieces played with.
