Script written by Arthur Miller who was married to Marilyn at the time. Miller had never written a film script before but wrote this one as a valentine to his wife. Unfortunately, the marriage was on the rocks and Marilyn was a mess throughout the shooting. He and Marilyn divorced shortly before the premier in 1961 and Gable died. Marilyn also died the following year in 1962. The film had a mediocre reception at the time of release but it has aged very well and is now considered to be a classic.
