In which modern country is Mount Ararat, where Noah's Ark came to rest?

Mount Ararat is a snow-capped and dormant compound volcano in the extreme east of Turkey. It consists of two major volcanic cones: Greater Ararat, the highest peak in Turkey and the Armenian plateau with an elevation of 5,137 m (16,854 ft); and Little Ararat, with an elevation of 3,896 m (12,782 ft). The Ararat massif is about 35 km (22 mi) wide at ground base.

Despite the scholarly consensus that the "mountains of Ararat" of the Book of Genesis do not refer to specifically Mt. Ararat, it has been widely accepted in Christianity as the resting place of Noah's Ark. It is the principal national symbol of Armenia and has been considered a sacred mountain by Armenians. It is featured prominently in Armenian literature and art and is an icon for Armenian irredentism. Along with Noah's Ark, it is depicted on the coat of arms of Armenia.

edelbill, This story is NOT strictly a Christian story. It is a Biblical story from the Old Testament which predates Christ and is called the Torah by Jews.

Merri Sillery, I agree, but maybe if the question were worded "reputedly came to rest" that would eliminate all the pointless, childish bickering here that converts nobody in the end. I remember a time when people respected the beliefs or non-beliefs of those they disagreed with.

edelbill, I found it humorous that Christians tolerate other religions and lack of religion, but you and others like you can't tolerate Christianity. Add the fact that more religions have the story of the great flood than Christians and that makes you appear unintelligent.

Noah’s Ark rests on Mt. Ararat in what used to be Armenia. As many of you know, the Turkish government, in the first act of Genocide of the 20th century, sought to systematically anihilate the Armenians. Nearly 2 million Christian Armenians were massacred and their land was taken by the Turks. Yet even today, the Turkish government denies it ever happened. Presently theydon’t allow anyone to explore the area where the Ark is purported to rest.

Not a fact, therefore the question should be phrased as a belief. Yes, mt Ararat is in modern day Turkiya, the rest is religious mythology.

Reminds me of the aboriginal Dreamtime stories and those of the American Red Indians. Or those of a hundred other cultures. Everybody has stories of where they came from and their civilizations journey threw early existence. Just saying, in old times parents had to tell their kids about something, hey ;~) The sad part is the hatred we have for each others beliefs and the harm we've caused each other to try and enforce our beliefs on each one an other :~(
