The Vardon golf grip technique is arguably the most popular golf grip used by tour professionals. It is relatively easy to get accustomed to and works for golfers of a range of sizes and ability. It is an overlapping golf grip named after Harry Vardon a golfer of the early 20th century who popularized its use. Harry Vardon is a legend in the sport ranked as one of the best golfers ever. Although the grip is named after him, he took the idea from a Scottish golfer Johnny Laidly who is credited with actually inventing the grip.

This golf grip technique requires the little finger of the bottom or trailing hand on the club to sit on top of the upper hand between the index and middle finger. The thumb of the left and leading hand (the hand nearer the top of the shaft) then fits into the lifeline of the palm of the right or trailing hand.
