Sand Bar State Park was established in 1933, and it is a 15-acre state park located in Milton, Vermont on the shore of Lake Champlain. This park was Vermont's sixth state park and was the first to be created on land purchased by the state.

At first, it was primarily a swampy marshland, which was cleared, filled, and graded. In addition to the bathhouse, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) built a stone grill which stands in the park. When the upper level of the bathhouse was originally built, it became living quarters for caretakers and lifeguards. Part of it is now used for storage, and the rest of the structure (only modified to provide electricity and plumbing) continues in its original use.

This park is now a very popular hangout for guests, locals, tourist, and sightseers; it is also on the National Register of Historic Places listings for Chittenden County, Vermont. In 2017, approximately 2500 families, groups, and individuals found Sand Bar State Park a good place to enjoy a good meal (lunch), view a peaceful lake, or take a short walk and relax on a very attractive and long sandy beach.
