The Cowboys defeated the Dolphins by the score of 24–3, to win their first Super Bowl. The game was played on January 16, 1972, at Tulane Stadium in New Orleans, Louisiana, the second time the Super Bowl was played in that city. Despite the southerly location, it was unseasonably cold at the time, with the kickoff air temperature of 39 °F (4 °C) making this the coldest Super Bowl ever played. The winning quarterback in the Cowboys first Super Bowl win was Roger Staubach. Tom Landry was the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys for their first Super Bowl victory.

Linda Spreng, Attended US NAVY SUPPLY SCHOOL with Roger in 1966 before he drew his Vietnam shore duty assignment (I got assigned to the CORAL SEA aircraft carrier). Found him to be a fantastic guy; a real officer and gentleman. I have a fan of Roger ever since (though not a Cowboys fan).

Linda Spreng, NFL Films named them America’s Team and they were this due to their wide fan base in every city they went to, not because the were superior or inferior to the other NFL Teams.

At the risk of riling up some Cowboy super-fan ... I never liked Roger Staubach, too much hype about the Naval Academy "hero". But my biggest beef with the Cowboys is the arrogance of naming themselves "America's Team". There were and are better teams than Dallas, but if you want to follow in that line, be my guest. Just never cared for the team. The only thing they've done right - in my humble opinion - is naming Kellen Moore as their offensive coordinator.
