The five beaches were, from west to east, Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno (not "Juliet") and Sword. The two western beaches were assaulted by US troops, the three eastern beaches by British, Canadian and other allied troops.

Irma Rivera, it's truly sad that the largest and most important marine invasion in the largest, most recent, and most important world war is not taught in public school. The success of this battle broke the back of the Axis leading to the Allied victory over the Nazis and the establishment of the United States of America as the wealthiest and most powerful nation ever on Earth.
